Double Fishtail Splice - Page 2

![]() Get your glue ready. I like to use Resorcinol or Urac. Have a mixing cup ready, a piece of plastic wrap and some fine sawdust. |
![]() Add equal parts of the powder and liquid to our mixing cup by volume or weight...(make sure you have plenty)...then blend in some sawdust as a binder/filler. |
![]() Liberally coat the all surfaces to be glued with the Resorcinol. Don't skimp on the glue! |
![]() Fit the pieces together carefully. If desired you can introduce reflex at this point. |
![]() Wrap the splice area with plastic wrap. |
![]() Clamp from each side with moderate pressure - being careful not to squeeze out all the glue. Some squeeze-out is expected. Let the glue setup for the time stated on the can. |
![]() Here's the belly of our bow after the clamps have been removed and the excess glue has been rasped off. |
![]() Another shot of the glue lines on the belly. |
![]() Excess glue rasped off the back of the bow. Notice the areas we will need to remove from the outside edge of the handle. |
![]() Finished Profile of glued up billets. |
![]() Excess wood from edges of handle removed. We are now ready to proceed to the typical bow layout. |
